The Random Thoughts and Experiences of a Pastor in Training

May 16, 2010 - Well, I decided to give this a try, wanting to sort through my own thoughts as I go through this experience of pastoral formation.  And I thought I’d do it online, just in case anyone is interested in reading anything I have to say.  This has been quite the experience so far.  I’m ending my third class – Creedal Themes.  Basically we’ve gone through the Nicene Creed line by line, sometimes word by word, and establishing the doctrine behind the statements made.  It’s been intense but I’ve learned a great deal.  Probably the most important part of this learning involves the Holy Spirit.  We seem to have an impersonal view of this third part of the Trinity, almost as though He is a “force” and nothing more.  But the Spirit is the third person of the trinity.  We can recognize Him, pray to Him (He is God too) and be in relationship with Him as well as with the Father and the Son.  I learned a prayer when I was studying for the diaconate from another one of the men in the program.  I’d forgotten about it until this past week.  And it is an example of how we can pray to that  third person of the Trinity:

Holy Spirit, you lead.  I’ll follow.  Amen.

I pray that you, too will see the Holy Spirit in a more personal way.  May God bless those of you who’ve managed to discover this blog and survived to read all the way to the end.
